SCG International,SCG Chemicals discussion withMs. Suphajee Suthumpun, Thailand’s Minister of Commerce

SCG International, led by Mr. Vorawut Panwarawat, Managing Director of SCG International India, and Mr. Piyapong Kansanarak, India Office Manager of SCG Chemicals, as one of the Thai private sector companies operating and investing in India, participated in a discussion with Ms. Suphajee Suthumpun, Thailand’s Minister of Commerce, during her official visit to India on 9 January. The discussion aimed to exchange perspectives on business opportunities, key challenges, and public–private collaboration to support trade, investment, and sustainable economic development.

During the discussion, Thai private sector representatives shared a common view that India is a high-potential strategic market, driven by the expansion of its middle class, currently exceeding 500 million people and expected to grow to 800–900 million by 2035. This presents significant opportunities for Thai products, particularly in construction materials, food, and chemical products, to expand in line with India’s market growth.

At the same time, key challenges were highlighted, notably the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification process, underscoring the need for close cooperation between the public and private sectors to strengthen Thailand – India supply chain resilience in the long term.
